Hey all, I am looking for macesque laptop for less than a macbook, any ideas. I've seen the envy 13 but thats too expensive. It sorta has to be 14" or less. Not my laptop you see. So I've been trasked with this mission, I'm drawing a blank, but would preferably be a linux compatible machine.

Cheers,
Dave.

There's a very nice Macbookesque laptop here:

Which Macish quality are you referring to?

Is something like this what you're looking for:

Well macish quality itself...

quality build usually come hand in hand with looks, unfortunately it usually comes hand in hand with cost too.

edit: The MSI is nice but too mac clone. I'm not really looking for a mac clone as such, just something with good build quality and good looks. That zareason site looks good. I am in the UK though :-(

I have found HP laptops to be of very high quality and they are nicely designed. I wouldn't call those qualities "Macbookish" however :P.

I've sold a couple of these (http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=proddesc&prod_no=1770&maincat_no=135), I was quite impressed with the build quality.

I can personally attest that I've have a VERY satisfactory experience with system76.

DELL laptops tend to be pretty sturdy, and of course you can get an Alpine white one with Ubuntu preinstalled!

However, I would go for Toshiba for hardware that's most similar to Apple's. It's also very durable, and futuristic-feeling. Of course, Toshiba is using more Atheros cards these days, as well, which is good for automatic network recognition.

Of course, ANY computer will be about half the price of the lowest available Macbook.

Its a difficult one. I was looking at the envy 13 a while ago, but they seemed to have pulle it, that onereally was a macbook pro clone though Lol. I seem to be drawing a blank at the mo. The zareason strata pro 13 looks kinda interesting. The screen looks nice and thing, which is good if its built well.

edit: On second look, the strata pro 13 has a slow processor. it wold be just about perfect with a beefier cpu...

Gah! whats happened to all the 13" laptops?? They gone the way of the ULV. How hard can it be to get a decent powered laptop at a nice portable size? Weren't they all the rage about a year ago?

Ok so I think the HP Envy 14 looks pretty damn sweet. It's a little bigger than I wanted but it looks too sweet to turn down really. Any thoughts?

Oh and does anyone know if they're releasing this machine in the UK? it would be a shame if they didn't.
