I cannot get a clean install on my ASUS 1000 with Ubuntu 10.06 netbook.

Each install appears to go fine until I try using the program and all sorts of things don't work from the software center on...In addition, the program usually freezes requiring me to foce a shutdown using the off/on key.

During start-up and those few times when I can close the program (instead of using a forced shutdown) the scrolling screen messages say I have a checksum problem.

This occurs despite the fact that using the md5 hash program the hash matched perfectly.

I tried several different downloads, burning each to a different CD and got the same results.

I then tried to install the desktop version using an Ubuntu supplied disk and, again, I get the same results. The program won't install cleanly and I get a closing scroll message that the checksum is off by 74. It scrolls too fast for me to read it thorougly and the Pause/Break key does not appear to work.

Is this the ASUS machine or the hard disk? Does anyone know of a solution or do I have to go back to ASUS and XP1 for help?
