I am using Ubuntu 10.04 along with Compiz. (CompizConfig-Manager).

I recently am facing a problem where my theme is garbled and it switched to some ugly theme. Previous to this issue, I was on the new themes which came with Ubuntu 10.04, but now I am not able to switch to those themes.

I have attached the screenshot of my present ugly theme.http://tweetphoto.com/22709215

This happened to me on 10.04 after installing the restricted Nvidia driver per Ubuntu's recommendation. Uninstalling the driver and rebooting solved the issue for me.

Did you install the nvidia restricted driver by chance?

Yes, I installed Nvidia restricted driver.

It was working properly since 10-15 days, but suddenly when I installed some applications including "StartUp Manager" things broke.

I will try de-activating the Nvidia drivers.

Yeah ! It did worked but now I don't have luxury of Compiz's effects.

Is there any other way where in I can have Nvidia restricted with other things also working, as it worked for me before.

After re-install everything is working great, including Compiz's effects.

Yeah .. I had to re-install everything.
There could be a better way but sadly I was not able to find it.

May be some Ubuntu expert can help you here. If you know how to reproduce this issue then you can file a bug on Launchpad for this.
