Ubuntu is working for LSB certification in Dapper Drake. It is one of the reasons why Mark Shuttleworth proposed a delay in the release of Dapper.

That's good to know. I was worried if they were going to do things in RPM format that it wouldn't help Ubuntu. But if it will it will be a great idea to allow it so all packages could work across all distros one day.

Well, I guess that LSB certitification doesn't mean Ubuntu will be going RPM. Maybe it just needs to pass some test? I'm not really familiar with the whole certification business, or with the goals and current status of LSB.

Well, rpm is already in main since a long time.
