ok I prefer gnome, anyway I fired up kopete the other day just try it, and then when I reboot, it switched to a view that looks kind of like kde without my knowledge or asking... tried switching sessions in login menu to no avail...
now it keeps telling me "volume control" quit unexpectedly when I boot... Please HELP! I liked how my desktop looked previously! and worked completely well... might I add this is Ubuntu 8.10

I get this error message with gnome-settings-daemon
Unable to start the settings manager 'gnome-settings-daemon'.
Without the GNOME settings manager running, some preferences may not take effect. This could indicate a problem with Bonobo, or a non-GNOME (e.g. KDE) settings manager may already be active and conflicting with the GNOME settings manager.
