View Full Version : [ubuntu] Windows 7 fails to start after 10.04 upgrade

May 16th, 2010, 11:17 AM

So I upgraded to Ubuntu 10.04 yesterday. I'm also running Windows 7 in dual-boot configuration. Today, when trying to boot to Windows 7, all I got is a dot on the left-hand side of the screen. Windows recovery options (F8 ) yield no results. It's as if Windows doesn't recognise the hard-drive any more. I noticed that after the upgrade the names of my partitions where changed - 7C46CA2C46C9E74C -> 7C46CA2C46C9E74C_ (This is the partition where Windows should start. Could this be the source of the problem? Any ideas on how to fix this?

EDIT: Managed to solve the problem with testdisk. If anyone is experiencing a similar problem this might help: http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/bootinfoscript/index.php?title=Boot_Problems:Boot_Sector
