Would one be correct to assume that Directfb is an alternative to X, sporting such essential features as using existing windows as textures (http://www.directfb.org/screenshots/DirectFB_3D_Windows3.png), playing ten blended MPEG2 videos without frame drop (http://www.directfb.org/screenshots/ten_videos.jpg) and running on a telephone (http://www.directfb.org/screenshots/directfb_on_tuxscreen.jpg)?
Has anyone here ever tried something other than X?

DirectFB is nice, but I'm rooting for the Wayland project.

EDIT: That 3D graphics demo seems to be getting 83 FPS for (I counted) 87 visible polygons (assuming each rectangle in the cylinder is two triangles, counting the reflection as separate, and counting each tile in the "shiny floor" as two triangles forming a square, which is the biggest possible number one could arrive at.)

...Okay, fine, 83.3 FPS.

Elyboy: Depends on your graphics hardware. I have DirectFB enabled on my Intel-chipset laptop so I can still watch movies if X ever breaks. By default it's disabled because it is supposedly buggy at times.
