From AVG: The AVG Rescue CD is essentially a portable version of AVG Anti-Virus supplied through Linux distribution. It can be used in the form of a bootable CD or bootable USB flash drive to recover your computer when the system cannot be loaded normally, such as after an extensive or deep-rooted virus infection. In short, the AVG Rescue CD enables you to fully remove infections from an otherwise inoperable PC and render the system bootable again.

Its about time Linux's recovery capabilities we more widely known don't you agree, I think its great AVG has done this lets hope the other AV providers follow suit.

I tried to removed a "hidden" partition using Win7, XP, and two Win retail partitioning tools.

None of them could remove the kind of partition that Dell uses to protect their restore area. They could COPY it, but not remove it.

Ubuntu did it no problem.

It would be interesting to have a Linux-based PCTOOLS kit like the old days. You would boot a PCTOOLS floppy, and you could edit directories, edit sectors, MBR, find things in hidden sectors, etc.

(old trick for cheap copy protection was to write a code sequence in a high sector, put a hidden read only file there to shield it. They could delete the file, but it would not remove the data.)
