Hey guys, I just need a bit of help with desktop effects and grub. TO start off, I am running Lucid 64 bit in Wubi on a Toshiba Satellite A215-S7422. I can't enable gfx effects (though I was able to in JJ and KK and even in II. Apparently this is due to my install using "software rasterizer" instead of something else in this output:
dan@ubuntu:~$ glxinfo | grep -i render
direct rendering: Yes
OpenGL renderer string: Software Rasterizer
Something about UMS still being enabled instead of KMS?
Also, I can;t seem to get rid of the Windows bootloader despite my best efforts. Anyway I could start using GRUB 2 instead? I want some beautiful splash screens. A secondary issue is a huge (like 8 entry) list of things that comes up after I select Ubuntu that I want to get rid of if possible just due to aesthetic pickiness. Hope you guys understood that, battling a cold, coherence is tough. Thanks in advance.
