I'm trying to install my Dell printer and I am asked for a root password. Help

Typically that is your normal password, if your user has administration privileges (which your original user should). Similarly, you have to use sudo with many system commands, so you do not do something accidentally or if you do not have permission, and so you pay attention to what you are doing if you do have permission.
