I don't exactly understand what you want to use unetbootin for. The only situation I have used it is to create bootable usb stick with ubuntu install files on it. When I had no installed ubunu. On a computer with ubuntu installed you can just use USB Startup Disc creator.

Do you have a cd-rom drive? Or a usb stick to use temporarily to install?

1. I own a netbook so no DVD/CD-ROM drive.
2. My Archos 2 delays during boot-up and the USB creator software that came with the i386.iso does not work i.e. start button is grayed out:(

Yeah, there was the same problem with usb-creator in 9.10 too.

1. If you have another PC around, you can burn the ubuntu ISO to a cd, boot with it in live mode (no changes to the computer), and use the USB Startup Disc cretor in System-Administration.

2. I have heard people using unetbootin to install from hdd, which is probably what you want to do, but I have never tried it and don't know the exact procedure.

In theory, the procedure is:

In unetbootin you select Disk Image, and the ISO file.
At the bottom instead of USB stick you select Hard Disk, and the disk letter you want to use.

When you reboot the ubuntu installer should start, not windows.

But I have never tried this myself although people have been using it.
