Icons VLC and aMSN

I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my notebook and this works well, but the icons of VLC and aMSN on the top panel appear wrapped in a white square. There solution to this problem?

cant really give any tips about vlc as i dont use it,

as for amsn is there any reason you cant use a better mesenger client such as emesene? emesene has indicator support so there is no square bacround.
