Has anyone gotten this working? I installed Ubuntu 10.04, and then Windows 7. Now I need to restore GRUB. I tried to do it and then the MBR on the Windows 7 installation broke and I was faced with the grub command line.

I restored it, so now I can boot Windows 7, but I can't get back to Ubuntu without using the CD.

I tried using grub-install, but I reboot and nothing changes.

Any help would be appreciated... :(

What you tried at first was the right way to go. Have no idea why it didn't work.

Boot in live mode and in terminal run:

sudo fdisk -l (small L)

Post the results. I will give you exact grub2 reinstall commands and it should work.

PS. Otherwise, yes, it does work. I am dual booting them and I earlier dual booted win7 and 9.10 with no issues at all.
