I've recently upgraded from an almost "standard" installation of karmic (couple PPAs added, virtualbox) to lucid using the cd image. Everything worked fine but after the upgrade I couldn't keep from wondering about a couple of things:

after the upgrage my full blown vim/vim-gnome suite was reset to just the "vim-tiny" package.
my desktop wallpaper was reset. I was using some stock artwork from the previous release (and liked it a lot :() and after the upgrade I was stuck with that purplish thing. Browsing the available wallpapers the one I was using was gone.

Did I miss something in the upgrade process? Is there a good reason for removing some software that came from the official repositories and for which an official update was available (vim)? Why remove the artwork from previous releases and replace it?
