Sorry if this has been asked before but its driving me crazy...I am so jealous of Carlee's desktop, and anyone else using plasma....

I loathe KDE though...dont get me wrong. I am glad its there for those that like it but I like the functionality of gnome. Its just a personal choice.

I am wondering if any of you might have a link to a nice gnome plasma theme I could DL/install on my puter.
Thanks in advance!

Plasma isn't the name of the theme, try looking for "oxygen" or "air" themes for gnome I'm sure I've seen some before

Very nice ideas in there!!
Is there something like a how-to to make the desktop look more or less like that?

Thanks for the responses thus far. I spend a lot of time picking out nice backgrounds for my desktop but I never see them as they are covered by windows...I thought a simi-transparent theme would be sweet!

In KDE
Plasma Theme is an obsoleted term as the the current 4.4 series.
What was called Plasma theme is now known as "Workspace Theme"

Titlebar themes are known as Aurorae. The obsoleteness of the "Plasma theme came because of this adition in 4.X to ease title bar theme creation / separation with widget and taskbar styles.

So if you want the taskbar look search for "Air" and Oxygen" clones for GNOME. Air is default "White, cloudy" and Oxygen is "black"

The default titlebar theme is called Ozone so look for clones of that.

well even if you hate kde why not just install plasma-desktop? shouldn't be too heavy. then just run it using alt+f2 plasma-desktop

I recently started using a sidebar like that, its on autohide. I dunno how I feel about it yet:

The plasma-desktop is very light actually. Many people have commented on how fast it is when using other window managers and such.

What makes KDE4 seem so "heavy" are some Qt problems, Kwin issues and Xorg issues, not that KDE4 is bloated, as people seem to think. KDE4 is the first desktop to use SVG and ARGB extensively on the desktop, since plasma rely on both to make look good and be flexible.

Well to be fair I think KDE is beautiful. I only have high end machines....even my laptop so it can handle the prettiest disto out there.

The opensuse theme is my favorite so far....almost looks like foggy glass. I have not had any luck finding a GNOME clone of the clear/shiny type themes. I have found some that look like dark foggy glass but nothing like Carlee's desktop there....

My beef with KDE is all the clicking. I have tried it twice recently and I kept thinking...man if this were default ubuntu I would already be where I want.

Even though it does not appeal to me I can still respect it for its flexibility in customization.

I am still looking through gnome-look. Unfortunatly I cant get to fatality's link from work so Ill have to check when I get home.
Thanks for the help thus far!

Hmm, I think I might try Kubuntu. I used to be such a KDE fan, perhaps I will give 4.4 a real try.
