I've been wondering how to remove the two small vertical dotted lines in the panel.

My apologies if this has already been addressed; I couldn't see anything. Thanks for the help!

And it seems that it is the Applet that lists all the windows in that Workspace.

What theme are you using?

When I right click and remove, the two dotted lines go but I lose the DockBarX applet, which is a shame. I was using the applet to emulate the Windows 7 taskbar because I'm both familiar and fond of it.

I'm using a custom theme of Clearlooks, Ubuntu Mono Dark Icons and New Wave window borders. I also use Shinybar from here: http://levviathor.deviantart.com/art/Shinybar1-3-for-DockbarX-135875506
As far as I'm aware this is just a dockbarx theme and some transparent background panel images.

There are also a similar pair of dotted vertical lines for the notification applet if that helps.
Thanks for replies everyone. You may have to bear with me, I'm quite new to Ubuntu.

It is the 'Handle' of the applet. e.g Tool bars of Office etc. You can right click it to modify the applet properties.

Thanks hariks, I was unable to find any reference to handles in the properties of the applet.
It would be nice to remove or hide the handle of the notification area too.

It is quite a pedantic request, I know. The reason it annoys me is because I was enjoying ubuntu's customisability relative to windows and it seemed silly not to be able to hide a small thing like the handles.

If they can't be hidden, I was wondering whether there was a way of changing the handle's colour, so at least they'd be less obtrusive.

Thanks for the help.

It is the 'Handle' of the applet. e.g Tool bars of MS Word etc. You can right click it to modify the applet properties.

I meant that right clicking the handle usually opens the Context menu of that applet. If you right click the body of the applet, the windows appearing in the dockbarx are hit but not the applet and the context menus differ accordingly. If there is no Handle how can you invoke the context menu of the applet, not of those windows?

Hope now you got the point and understand the necessity of the Handle.

Please mark the thread Solved.

I have found the solution to my problem. I'll put it in here.

This link describes using a custom transparent image to mask the default handles. They are in essence hidden, in that they are not visible, but still interact with a right click, therefore remaining accessible.

Thanks for the help anyways.
