View Full Version : [ubuntu] Upgrade to 10.04 broke ALL sound input

I upgraded my system to Ubuntu 10.04 this morning. I've spent the last 6 hours or so pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my sound input no longer works. My tv card (WinTV, bt878 ) can no longer be heard. It worked fine before the upgrade this morning. This seems to be just a symptom of a larger problem.

I have two microphone jacks and one line-in jack on my onboard sound. None of them will accept any sort of sound input now. I have my tv card running into my line-in jack, I can no longer hear my tv application. I see it just fine. I use tvtime. My tv app is not the problem, I have plugged my HTC Hero into all the mic and line-in jacks as well, and nothing can be heard when I play an mp3.

This system is dual boot with Win7. All of the jacks work fine in Win7.

I went into my junk closet and dug out an old Sound Blaster card and put it in. It's recognized under Linux as an ES1371. Alsa recognizes it just fine. It has one mic input and one line-in jack. Neither of those will accept sound input either. Sound output works fine, just like with my onboard sound.

I have made sure nothing is muted using alsamixer.
