Hey everyone,

I havent used ubuntu since intrepid, but came back from arch linux excited to try lucid :D

After I've burned the live cd, I can get to the menu (try ubuntu, install etc), but whenever I try to start ubuntu the frequency goes out of range.

I have tried adding vga=771 to the end of the boot line, this had no effect.

Any help is appreciated!!

EDIT: Am downloading the alternate now. However, please let me know if you know whats going on anyways.

Your monitor is not being correctly identified. What monitor are you trying to use? Are you by chance using an HDTV? I tried to use a certain VIZIO HDTV model on HDMI with my computer and it just refused. It will only take an analog signal from the computer, digital (HDMI) only from set top boxes or DVD/BluRay. I also have an older Viewsonic that gives similar problems.

Tell us if you have Intel graphics too. There has been problems with certain Intel chipset and IGP configurations.

I would try 1024x768@256 colors (8-bit) with "vga=773" in your boot parameters. The link to Wikipedia below and your owner's manual may be useful too..

I am using an analog monitor, with integrated nvidia graphics.
I'll try the vga=773 in a minute.
Thanks for the interest :)

The screen still goes out of rage when using vga=773.

I am out of cdr's to attempt the alternate installtion with, and it did not work from a usb.

Any suggestions?

I've now tried the live cd using 2 different lcd monitors, and an older crt. All of them had the same problem. Could this be some kind of problem with the motherboard?

[QUOTE=GSF1200S;9232381]This is an issue alot of people have been having. When you boot the liveCD, select your language and highlight but DONT hit enter the "Try Ubuntu Without Installing" option. Then, hit ESC and look for the line that ends in:

ro quiet splash
and change it to:

ro i915.modeset=0

For other users who see this thread, the above applies to an intel graphics device. If you are using an Nvidia card you would do:

ro nomodeset
instead of:

ro i915.modeset=0

Thank you for marking this issue as solved.

This problem is also discussed in a General Help Sticky (http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1469475). Apparently I need to read those myself and start directing more of my responses to them. ](*,)
