View Full Version : [ubuntu] 10.04 upgrade broke my dual boot (redundant I know)

Hey...I browsed many different forums and am at a lose of how to fix this. Upgraded to lucid lynx....broke windows 7....fixed it...then an update came that I installed that broke everything again, but this time I can't fix it with a windows 7 restore disk. Whenever I go to Windows 7 my computer restarts.

Here is that bootscript thing:

Typically I try to hunker down and fix these things on my own, but I am at my wits end. I have tried updating grub...reinstalling it...restoring windows 7 bootloader, then reinstalling grub...all of this ends in either a restart or a black screen with a blinking cursor when I select Windows 7.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

This might be worth a shot.

http://sourceforge.net/apps/mediawiki/bootinfoscript/index.php?title=Boot_Problems:Boot_Sector
EDIT: Actually, maybe you shouldn't try this, seems to be written for XP.

The example shown on the sourceforge site is for XP but the update using testdisk works most of the time for Vista or 7. But your boot info script does not show a problem.

I think part of the problem may be your still are in the test mode of useing old grub legacy and grub2. The windows entry in grub2 is wrong. Did you somehow edit it?

set root='(hd0,1)' sda2 should be (hd0,2)

With just grub2 this should fix it
sudo update-grub

but the combination may not work. I have not seen anyone still running it.
