[16:45] <akgraner> <rrnwexec> QUESTION: randall in Vancouver asks: What excites you most about the project these days? Which part of it gives you the most enjoyment and fun?
[16:45] <sabdfl> wow
[16:46] <sabdfl> well, i got a whole new job description this year :-)
[16:46] <sabdfl> so that's very energising
[16:46] <sabdfl> mainly i'm focused on the desktop
[16:46] <sabdfl> and how we reshape that
[16:46] <sabdfl> hence all the blogging

Maybe he's just referring to the Ubuntu Developer Summit (http://summit.ubuntu.com/uds-m/)

He's going to rebrand Ubuntu with a green lizard.

Now he's going to move the window management buttons to the bottom-middle section of the window, and he's putting the scrollbar sideways on the top.

INNOVATION!

...to make room in 11.04 for a 'popularity meter' that measures how long a window has been open

I was waiting for something along that line for quite a while. Remember the first shots of the new branding? https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Brand2Some eagle eyed users observed that there seem to be something like a global menu. Some weeks later Mark announced a global menu. Another thing that was apparent on this shot was the missing bottom panel (at that point we got told, that it wason autohide for the screenshots). Some people thought that this unprofessional to show screens with not the real desktop appearance. I got more and more the feeling that this was more of a prototype of things to come. And with all the new obsession with vertical space it seems reasonable for me. Lets see what will come

Mark certainly knows how to keep ubuntu in the news.

Just to clarify before this topic goes crazy, Mark is just reminding those interested to participate in UDS-M (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UDS-M), which is a week of dedicated planning for the next release, beginning this Monday. There's always a lot of interesting discussion going on.

If you don't happen to be in Brussels, Belgium at the time, you can participate remotely (https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UDS-M/RemoteParticipation).

Moving the buttons to the left side allows Google to put Ads on the right side. What a clever way to monitize Ubuntu's popularity.
