I hate the layout to Thunderbird 3. Does anyone have a deb of Thunderbird 2 I can install, I can't seem to find one online. Thanks for the help.

Probably won't find a .deb but you can still download the .tar.gz file, unpack it and move it to /opt. http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/2.0b2/

Alan,

Try this url site. It is a .tar.gz file, but it is what you are looking for. I don't like the new Thunderbird also; To may mail folders!

ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/thunderbird/releases/

Thanks FireFighter but I don't know what those files are, or how to download all of them together. I am not really a Linux expert so I don't know how to compile from source. That's why I am asking for a deb of Thunderbird. Does anyone at all have one or know where I can get one?

Couldn't find the deb either, but the tarball can be found here http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/thunderbird/releases/2.0b2/

That link above does not seem to work for me.

Follow my screenshots through that link and you will have the Thunderbird 2.0 English US version. If you are doing a different lang/country then select the proper one when you get to the screen matching the second screenshot select the one with your lang/country.

Once you get it downloaded. Go to one of the many tutorials on how to install a tarball.

Instead of saying the link doesn't work, you could have asked how to navigate such servers.

For me it's not only the messy layout. I can't replay on some "fancy" mails. The cursor newer come in the reply-window so I can not write anything there.

Someone knew where one can get 64bit version of Thunderbird2?

uRock it's not that I don't know how to navigate the those sites its that the link does not go to a working page (see attachment). If that is not the case for you then please tell me how you are able to see it and I am not.

That bites. The link works well from here. I guess we are hitting different DNS servers with different info. I just looked closer at the TB2 in that link and it is the beta version anyway.

You needn't be. SeaMonkey's e-mail client works just like the old wonderful Thunderbird 2.0.

In SeaMonkey the browser and e-mail are an integrated internet suite, but you can configure SeaMonkey to open into the Mail and News page on Start-up. You might actually like the browser too (and most Firefox add-ons work on it as well).

Enjoy,
Robin

nice to know I'm not the only one less than happy with TB3. the "upgrade" broke so many of my settings it took me 3 days to get tb2 working again and now I can't find tb2 to install on U10.

so much for choice. and "if you don't like it, roll back" (first KDE3.* to 4.*, not TB)

For anyone still looking, the following .deb package for Karmic Koala installed fine for me in both Maverick and Narwhal:
http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/t/thunderbird/thunderbird_2.0.0.24+build1+nobinonly-0ubuntu0.9.10.3_i386.deb

In the meantime, for those who have begrudgingly continued with TB3 (Alan), I'm curious whether it's improved at all since you started using it? My first experience with TB3 was in Windows and I hated it. I found downgrading to TB2 so relieving, and I've been too stubborn to try 3 again -- even with the search indexing disabled, it felt so bulky and sluggish.
