View Full Version : [kubuntu] Getting mixed tab/space indent in Kate

Hello all,

Here's a problem that has been bugging me for ages, ever since first upgrading to KDE4.

My habit when writing code, markup etc. in Kate or its derivative editors (KDevelop, Kile, Quanta, Frescobaldi, ...) is to use the indentation philosophy "tabs for indentation, spaces for alignment" (or "mixed indent" as it's often known), as described here:
http://www.emacswiki.org/emacs/SmartTabs

However, I can't for the life of me work out how to get Kate in KDE4 to do this in a way that works with its automatic indentation -- either I turn off the automatic indent, or I end up with alignment-related spaces being converted to tabs on the next line when I hit return.

Can anyone advise?

Thanks & best wishes,
