new installation fails

Hi,

I was trying to install Ubuntu 10.04 (desktop) on my old PC. But it keeps stopping after I selected keyboard(never leaves this screen).

What can I do? The PC is able to run XP, but I hoped that I could speed up things a bit by using Ubuntu

if you boot on the live-cd (without installing it), have you this issue too ?

maybe try to install with acpi=off

I have now tryid to run Ubuntu directly from the CD which runs OK...

I found out that my HD was dead!! Could not access it from CD mode...

Could wish a better error message ( or just getting one would help)
