For more than a few weeks I noticed that my laptop starts very slowly. I even timed and lasts two minutes each time. I reinstalled the system (Ubuntu 10) but even booting from the CD last long. After reinstallation the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Has the slow booting just happened since your upgrade to 10.04? Did 10.04 ever boot quickly for you?

Some have found that changing the SATA Controller mode in the BIOS can improve boot speed.

Until now I used Ubuntu 9.04. I thought the problem occurred after I've installed a suite of programs. So I reinstalled unbuntu 10. The problem is that the BIOS is an older version. I wasn't able to identify the SATA option. I will do a BIOS upgrade and return with an feedback. By the way thanks!

maybe choose a lighter distro with lxde or xfce instead of gnome which is heavy (maybe to heavy for your system)

download the "alternate" image
