INterrupted Upgrade

Help! I was upgrading my desktop from 9.10 to 10.04. Was well into the upgrade (was at "configuring grub" when it froze. I had to reboot, and chose the 2.6.32.22 kernel (the latest available) then nothing - a flashing cursor on a black screen for a few seconds then only a blank screen.

Any suggestions on how to recover? I tried the recovery mode on the same kernel. Nothing.
