I am going to install Ubuntu 10 (64 bit) on my new system. What are the requirements? How much hard drive space do I need that is? Is 64 bit better than 32 bit... as far as being most compatible with apps? Plus I didn't see a download link for the 64 bit.

Ubuntu System Requirements are easy to find and well-documented:

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/SystemRequirements

You can find the 64 bit version on this page: http://www.ubuntu.com/GetUbuntu/download
Click where it says "Alternative download options, including Ubuntu installer for Windows" and you'll see the 64-bit option.

Which version to choose depends on your hardware, like buying shoes that fit your feet... neither is "better."

64-bit can give you 10-40% speed improvement with memory intensive operations (e.g. video encoding). If you have 4 GB or more of RAM you will want 64-bit. Lucid has the PAE kernel in 32-bit so it can also see more than 4 GB of RAM.

Some motherboards, RAID cards, and obscure hardware may have problems with 64-bit. Try the Live CD for a few days. If everything works, then you should be OK to install.

That's just what I mean. When I click the alternate downloads, it just displays text for 64 bit version. There is no LINK to download 64 bit.

.... And by running ok, you mean what? How will I tell? Is 64 bit harmful to some hardware, you're saying?
