At Hamilton Zoo in New Zealand there is a baby African white rhino which needs a name. The staff at the zoo have been calling him `Bunty'. But the search is now on for a more serious official name, preferably something reflecting his African heritage.

Now it seems to me that if they called the little fellow `Ubuntu' then surely that would be a very appropriate african name for an african rhinoceros and the staff could even keep calling him `bunty' for short. It's perfect!

Having a Rhinoceros called `Ubuntu' would be way cool. He'd make a neat mascot. People might get away with dissing the penguin, but nobody messes with a rhinoceros.

Looks like my suggestion is being taken seriously. In fact it may even be the front runner.

How ironic that Rhinoceros doesn't run on Ubuntu... ;)

I haven't tried yet. I can see a box of Rhinoceros 1.0 on the shelf from where I sit.

Rhino is Open Source now, so it could be re-compiled for other x86 operating systems with editing. It's a NURBS CAD modeling system with support for digitizer arms. Pretty cool stuff for the price.

CORRECTION:

Rhinoceros is a retail product, but their OpenNURBS project supports a toolkit to create the geometry. My bad.
