I have Ubuntu 9.10 x86-64 do you know, if it is compatible with motherboard Gigabyte GA-890GPA-UD3H - AMD 890GX? Or MSI 890GXM-G65 - AMD 890GX? Nvidia has better support for Linux.

Best regards,

There nobody replied my question, so i did a small research in providers. There is result. Some parts are in Czech language, but it will be shortly commented.

Tittle,

i am seeking appropriate motherboard for Ubuntu Linux 9.10 i have installed 64bit version Ubuntu on Microstar K8N NEO4 Platinum and AMD Athlon 3200+, but it is so slow now. I would like to change motherboard, processor etc. and boot from original HD installation, but first thing is, if the motherboard is compatible. It means if Ubuntu 9.10 x64 has drivers for graphic ATI Radeon HD4290 and for net card Realtek 8111D (driver for Realtek 8111C was on Ubuntu 9.04 unstable).

Thank you forward for response.

Answer:

Dear Petr ,

Thank you for your kindly mail and inquiry. Due to different Linux support condition provided by chipset vendors, please download Linux driver from chipset vendors' website or 3rd party website. Sorry that we cannot guarantee our MB to work on Linux because chipset vender does not release driver for us.

Answer:

... a am apologize, but drivers for Linux aren't issued by ASUS Corporation, .... Hardly recognize compatibility without needed drivers.

Dobry den,

omlouvam se, ale protoze ovladace pro Linux nejsou spolecnosti ASUS vydavany pak bude treba se podivat po forech zabyvajicich se prave touto ovladacovou problematikou. Tezko urcit tuto kompatibilitu bez potrebnych ovladacu.

S pozdravem

I use Ubuntu 10.04 and it works fine with onboard HD3300 and Realtec 8111.

However, it does not work with the RadeonHD driver for me, but fine with the Radeon driver.
FGLRX driver doesn't work at all for me.

They are working for some time on the OS-Radeon drivers and they get better with the minute.
I used 9.10 on my board too without any problems, so I expect little problems for you.

Clearly, only MSI is obliging really solve the problems on Linux platform and they have practical experiences with Ubuntu Linux. So my choice is straightforward even if i believe, that the other motherboards works fine too, but there is no real support on side of producers/vendors.
