Hi all,

I have an old PIII laptop I wanted to tinker with. I tried ubuntu, xubuntu and netbook remix and get basically the same issue - after the install I get a prompt for login and then a user@laptopname:~$

Any idea how to fix this or is the laptop too old?

Thanks,
Rob

Anybody help with this? It's kind of frustrating since I know the laptop had 8.04 on it and ran fine (I then wiped it and did a fresh install). Just can't figure out why 10.04 isn't working.

Thanks,
Rob

Try typing:

startx

from the command line.

Also, what are the specs of the laptop (particularly the graphics card)?
Did the Live CD work okay prior to installing?
