If Canonical seek aesthetically pleasing looks, they should absorb something that KDE also implements - colouring icons. When I use gnome with the new monochrome icons, other applications that don't have corresponding icons look really out of place, so there should be some kind of feature that would colour these icons to look native.

In KDE it's a really simple process, there are all kinds of effects to choose from and they apply to all the icons on the panel(s) or the system entirely.

Monochrome icons are part of Ayatana proyect.
Monochrome icons is better for Usability and Productivity.
Monochrome icons seems easy to understand.

Thats what i read on Ayatana, Usability proyects,
Desktop Experience, Apps Friendlyness, and such things...
