Here's the thing.

Im trying to make bookmarks (or launchers in my awn) to a samba shared drive that point to smb:\\xxx.xxx.x.xxx\Shared Drive and this works beautifully, however now every time i use said launcher an eyesore comes up in my desktop. (see attached)

Is there any way for me to link to a samba partition without the resulting mounted drive appearing in my desktop.

I still like other drives appearing in my desktop when they are mounted.
Also this is a laptop and it will be used else where where the drives are not available so i wouldn't like to mess with fstab and permanently mount them. (causes file system check errors on startup when the drives aren't available)

also is there any other more efficient way to link to a samba drive?

Thanks for the help. you guys are better then live one care! J/K

Bump? no one answer?

ill rephrase the questions

1) How do i mount a windows share on startup?
2) Does that mess up my system if the share is not available at boot time?
3) How do i disable the automatic icons in the desktop when a drive is mounted?

Plz help. Cant find answers. Im a Noobuntu!
