So, I'm still seeding the Ubuntu 10.04 torrent. I've uploaded 8.2 GB, which is a 12.0 ratio. When does everyone here stop, and how do you decide when to pull the plug?

I have uploaded 2.01 GB, which is a 3.02 ratio.

well,
if it's a really good file i will seed until i need to make room, or start moving things and misplace files. lol
that usually means i seed each file for at least 2-3 months at a time.
but often longer.

my 10.4 torrent is at 6.6 GB uploaded.

but sometimes i will make the decision to pull the plug if there are massive amounts of seeds and i just need to do other things. lol

or sometimes if the file turns out to be less than desirable..
i will cut the cord on it. ..

lots that can effect my decision to seed for a long time or not i guess. lol

i do have some files i have seeded for over a year at a time though
maybe more...

respect .

i seed while downloading & as long as no one else is using the internet. are service is not fast enough, my grandparents use a internet tv box for chinese programs, combined with the kids playing xbox live it brings are network to a crawl, in some cases it even crashes the router. so i do my downloads late after everyone else go's to sleep, i usually delete all torrents in the mourning before i go to bed.

I don't seed. If I had a spare server, I would.

For ubuntu and most other distros I just leave it (running at night) for as long as there are people downloading.
There is only one ubuntu iso being uploaded atm as others have stopped being downloaded at the average of 20% in upload/download ratio.

not sure why it is this low.

I have Transmission configured to seed to a ratio of 2.0. I have a monthly bandwidth limit but my ISP refuses to tell me exactly what it is. It didn't stop them from promising me 'unlimited' Internet when they were signing me up, though.... :(

I don't get it. How would a spare server help? I have the one machine, and I can seed easily. Deluge barely takes up any other system resources besides available bandwidth, and I doubt it's much different for other bittorrent clients.

I don't seed, I've got no soil for that, unfortunately.
If you mean torrents, then I seed usually up to 1.5 but I stop seeding after a shutdown/reboot. Can't be bothered to restart torrent client.

I have an Airlive box (www.airlive.com) with a 500GB HD inside that takes care of all my torrent/seeding stuff for me. No need to have the computer on all day.

I normally seed 1:2. But I seeded Ubuntu 10.04 1:5.

For normal torrents, I seed 5:1. For things I care about, like Ubuntu, or torrents with a very low number of seeds, I seed until it is either outdated(Ubuntu) or there are enough seeders for the torrent to live on without me.

Things like Ubuntu, I seed over 2x.
The rest of the things, I see about 1x.
(My internet is not unlimited)

I wondered the same...

all i have for downloading is my one machine (not a server)
and seeding isnt an issue here either.

Lol Chinese programs XD I download them through BitTorrent lol...

I'm not much of a seeder though...my ISP has a monthly allowance.

I try to seed above 10x on most things.

I seed until I need my pipes back. Sometimes that means I'll seed for several days...sometimes that means I don't do much seeding at all.

Every once in a while I'll find a pet torrent (philosophy book, obscure film, etc.) that I'll seed for a really long time.
