Help! I'm in deep trouble! I was upgrading Ubuntu 9.10 to Ubuntu 10.4 while my sister is playing DeSmume, when it suddenly shut down. And when I tried to reboot it, I got this message:

"mount: mounting on /dev failed: no such device"

and after a while, it will become black and show some messages. The last message is this:

"Edit /etc/default/jackd to start jackd"

what should I do now? Please I really need help.

*I'm dual boot with Windows 7 and Ubuntu 9.10 and I'm using Acer Aspire 4732z and I upgraded using Update Manager not from CD.

I'm having the same issue. I get the mount failed also, after I don't think the upgrade fully completed properly.

I left my machine upgrading. Came back after a few hours and couldn't wake the system. So rebooted and that's when I got the mount failed.

It eventually shows me a horrid purple screen with Ubuntu 10.4 and gets me in but I don't have compiz or advanced graphics.

Grub still reads 9.10 too

Can I downgrade? I'm not that impressed with 10.4 so far...
