two problems on two pc's

im trying to install ubuntu 10.04 on two pc's

laptop - samsung r60 plus
web install from 9.10 gos black screen after i reboot at the end
cd install is just black unless i press (ESC - F6) then just gos black at reboot

desktop pc
cd install works fine but it wont recognise my monitor so it wont set its resolution to the right settings

22" gnr ts2200 wa 1680x1050

i read you have to do this (google)


(have to manually add radeon.modeset=0 to the kernel command line).

but i dont know even what that means........ :)
