I have this problem, I tried to install new themes but it went horribly wrong because I restarted Gnome and it messed up my system and now I can't get to my log in screen. I can only work in recovery mode. I have tried to fix gnome by trying different things such as: dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg and xfix but I get this warning at the end: xserver-xorg postinst warning: overwriting possibly-customised configuration file; backup in /etc/x11/xorg .conf .20100501153718.
what can I do to reset gnome, or at least restore my GUI?
