hi there,

i have been using linux for a while now but i am really still a complete noob when it comes to problems, having said that, i've not had a problem untill now

i installed ubuntu 9.1 only weeks ago on my new laptop, using the windows installer. the one where it install grub and everything for me :) (its brilliant BTW getting friends into linux with it)

but yesterday i was updating my ubuntu when my internet connect was drop, only half the updates got installed, and i turned off the computer. now grub wont find linux..

well.. step by step..

1. i turn laptop on, grub loads and gives me the option of windows or ubuntu.
2. i select ubuntu, and then grub usually takes me to a menu offering Ubuntu and 3 variants(ubuntu safe mod ect.) but instead it come up with a.. what i can only discribe as a MS DOS Style command promt..

typing help and pressing tab gives me the commands but i still can not work how to load ubuntu from there.
i'm guessing that if i can get ubuntu loaded the updates will rectify the problem

any help please?

EDIT: if i select windows from the first grub option windows loads correctly..

if your internet is back up or if you have another computer, I would download the SuperGRUB disk and repair that bad boy.
