View Full Version : [ubuntu] Post-install 10.04 issues - gnome panel broken

I had ubuntu 9 already, but chose to do a clean install in a different partition (with the same /home partition). Call me paranoid, but I like to have a line of retreat! Went well - detected my old ubuntu & w2k - I let it inherit settings because it mentioned firefox, & I thought I'd like to keep my bookmarks.
It comes up (after autologin) with the top panel broken.
Right click/properties/background/change fixes it.
The .xsession.errors are below.
I had installed thunderbird 3 via ubuntuzilla, and some of the errors below look like they've come from there.

Any suggestions on how to fix the panel? It's a pain to have to fiddle it every login.

Thanks
Chris

PS: Other comments:
1. Had to install thunderbird! sure I read 10.04 included t'bird v3?
2. Didn't recognise my scanner (epson stylus sx415). Fixed by downloading iscan from epson - simple scanner now works - but I preferred xsane.
Like being able to preview, trim, rotate before saving.
3. My eyetoy still doesn't seem to work (although I haven't installed skype yet).
4. Ubuntu's still great - years since I booted w2k, i'd almost forgotten it was on there!

Looks like this bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-panel/+bug/574247
I have the same problem on a relatively old PC with a Matrox G450 graphics card, fresh Lucid install.
My .xsession-errors below:
