So I've got an open box or two laying around from the days of yore, and I turned one of them, a Pentium 1, briefly into a router with a live Debian cd and some brute force iptables rules, and the only two odd ethernet cards the system would recognize...

What I've never done is ever unsolder and replace anything on a circuit board, nor replaced a cpu with a different cpu... I've busted open power supplies, but I've never fixed one and put it back together again. I've never fixed a monitor.

So... I know there are hardcore hardware people here. Hopefully some people can have fun posting their fishing yarns in this thread. Magic smoke can be good!

Just to clear the air: please be careful with power, with heavy metals, with heat, and with light. Read the safety instructions on the tools and shop manuals. Don't mix anything with water or oil unless you really know what you are doing, and have a backup plan in case anything goes awry.

Has anybody here ever smiled while voiding their warranty?
