How much difference in memory can there be on the 2 different DIMM channels?

My board supports this:
Dual channel DDR2 1066/800/667/533 x 4 DIMMs, Max. 8GB

In channel 1, I have this:
Kingston 2GB (2 x 1GB) PC2-5300 Dual Channel 667Mhz

In channel 2, I want 2 more Kingston 1G PC2-5300 667Mhz sticks.

Do they have to be the same chipset ID?

You can pretty much judt mix and match as you like. The only thing to be avare of is that the system will default to the slowest modules, but chances are you wont come across anything slower than 667 mhz.

If 800 mhz PC2-6400 is cheaper, just go with that instead.

Default to slower, across both channels?

800Mhz is faster; I won't find it cheaper, will I?

its better to have the same chips on both channels with the same settings.

max=8 so 2*4 , easily used by pae kernels

Its best to match them as closely as you can. Exact mates would be great, but I've seen some mix and match stuff work just fine too.

Yes 800mhz RAM might be cheaper. I haven't price compared lately, but it seems the last time I looked it was. Your 800mhz RAM will run at the slower 667mhz, but otherwise should work.
