I downloaded ubuntu-10.04-desktop-amd64.iso and burned it to CD. I did a md5 check on the iso and it was fine. The burn went fine but when I try to boot from the CD, I get a message that says

Installation Failed

The installed session will now be run so that you may investigate the problem or try installing again.

I dont get any screens that gives the option to check the integrity of the CD or choose to install. It goes right into the desktop after the error message.

I did notice that once I click OK on the error message that in the terminal behind it, I briefly saw a message that said

"Failed due to unknown user_id"

I burned the CD again and I got the same error.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure what might be wrong but to get the "bot options" including "check cd for defects:

http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/1004#Boot%20options%20hidden%20by%20default%20on%2 0Desktop%20and%20Netbook%20CDs

The Ubuntu 10.04 LTS Desktop and Netbook CDs feature a new boot interface that is noninteractive by default. To configure advanced boot options, press any key at the first boot screen.

As soon as you see the two emblems "human = keyboard" you only have about 3 seconds to hit a key then you'll get the familiar menu.

Anyway I'd check cd first then select try without installing to be sure the Live Desktop runs OK before trying to install.

This describes what is happening to me. So I will try that when I get home.

Thanks!
