View Full Version : Transcoding and creating DVDs with MythTV

I want to burn some of my recorded programs to DVDs. To keep the number of DVDs I need to the minimum, I need to reduce their size - with their as-recorded-from-ATSC-sizes, I can only get 2 half-hour episodes per disk.

I finally figured out how to get the in-MythTV transcoding option to work, and reduced their size to ~900MB each. So far so good, but the files are now .nuv, and not .mpg; and the DVD creation program reports file sizes of 6,000,000+ TB per half-hour episode (But only on the summary screen - the sizes on the selection screen are accurate). The size estimates were accurate on the original files and on other .mpg recordings.

What's going on here? Is there a way to set the internal transcoder to do bitrate reduction but still give .mpg files? What's the approved method for controlling file sizes for files being burned to DVD? Is it just a .nuv issue that I'm running into with the DVD creation program, or is there something else?
