View Full Version : [ubuntu] Ubuntu 10.4 Bootup SLOW!!! (Splash Screen)

Ubuntu 10.4 has been perfect from a clean install except for the following problem. After a username and password is entered. The splash screen is prevalent for like ten or fifteen seconds then Gnome is displayed. It's real annoying because 9.10 would boot through the splash screen to the desktop in a flash.

Any thoughts?

I have the same experience. I thought maybe some code was not updated from the Beta2 I had installed. Did you have the Beta installed on your machine?

No.
This was a fresh install.

Me too. I also have a blank screen (only flashing cursor) for about 30 secs on boot before the Ubuntu logo. Not sure if it is related.

I had thought maybe it is my USB harddrive which is not being found (it goes on standby to save power). Will need to check when I get home tonight.

Same problem, what is strange is that the "gm-notify" that I use automatically loads after 2 seconds and that the rest of the gnome takes about 10 seconds.

I have the same problem. didnt have floppy enabled in bios though.
it pretty much goes like this:
-black background, flashing cursor in the upper left corner of the screen
-ubuntu logo appears briefly very low resolution for some reason
-finally I get to log in.
whole thing takes approx. 45 seconds from power on to being able to insert my password to log in.

would be cool if someone helped thx.

Well, I've had the same problem with both 9.10 and 10.04. I think 10.04 is actually faster, and it boots in about 2 minutes. Sure, it is slow, but can't you just do something else while you're waiting?

ofcourse I could. It would just be way more fun to be able to fix it since I heared it takes an average of 20 seconds to boot when everything is working fine.
