i have a 8 gb flashdrive, could i boot my laptop from the live cd and then proceed to install ubuntu 9.10 to the flash drive and still have the changes persistent and be able to boot up without the live cd? so basically substituting a hdd with a flash drive?

i know i can use the universal usb program installer to install it to the flash drive, but for some reason when i get to the 3rd step, it wont find my flashdrive.

I did that with a portable HD instead of a flash drive and it worked. But instead of using the USB creator program, I simply booted up the Live CD and installed Ubuntu on the external hard drive, including GRUB. It worked perfectly, and I believe it should work with a flash drive :)
About the part where it won't detect your flash drive, does it show up on the file browser or it just doesn't appear on the USB creator setup?
