After getting such a great reaction last year, i knew i had to make another one this year. There was lots of feedback and i've put a lot of effort into this updated post. Please let me know what you think and help me spread the word if you can. I hope you'll find this useful and that new users can learn from the instructions and explanations i provided

The size of your font makes people feel angry just because it is so obtrusive.

Also posting this in the GNOME and Linux groups on identi.ca is not a good idea, as I dented.

Try using Windows 7 instead! I mean after all it's only taken Microlimp 10 years to catch up to modern software standards by copying everything Apple and Linux do. So Win 7 is like your favorite tribute band. :guitar:

I'm trying to get my Lucid install up to par, but my installs via apt-get or synaptic keep getting hung up and stopping. Is it because the servers are overloaded due to the release, or is it something on my end?

Probably because the servers are slow-- try selecting a mirror like it shows in the guide =]

Impressed that finally my sound card works. Its an Asus Sonar Essence STX and I use digital speakers and once I changed to digital duplex output it worked .

Not impressed with the look of firefox especially the buttons moved to the upper left instead of the standard upper right. Actually dont really like the look of firefox at all but hopefully a new theme may help ,,,choclate suxs :-)

I love it -
i had been running this box from 7.04 up to 9.10 all upgrades and i did see a slow down ove time as well as minor breakage.
I grabbed the rc for lucid Lts when it hit and installed it with ext 4(i hope ext 4 is stable)changed my theme to one I prefer grabbed a few of my regular proggy's and off I went
install went smooth like ice and boot time is well to put it mildly :) crazy fast.
Great job everyone:guitar:

I've only ran Lucid off live cd so far but looks good, however
I don't understand why the buttons have been moved to the left on all the windows, very confusing.

Open up a terminal, type "gconf-editor" then navigate to /apps/metacity/general and make the "button_layout"
:minimize,maximize,close

This is one of the many advantages of Ubuntu in that it can be customised to personal preferences, brill. :P

Putting the min, max and close on the left is not going to win over any Window users for sure.

I knew you'll post it once 10.04 is out. Great page.
By the way, I just noticed that Pitivi is still included although it's already default.

The font size is fine; very readable.

I agree. For making the transition easier for new users coming from Windows I recommend restoring the buttons to "Windows style layout".

The cleanest way to restore the window button position to the right is to install the right aligned theme (not messing around with gconf):

Step-by-step procedure:
1. Download the modified theme http://people.ubuntu.com/~dylanmccall/downloads/themes/Ambience_Radiance-Right.tar.gz
2. Open the menu "System" > "Preferences" > "Appearance"
3. Click the button "Install"
4. Open the folder "Downloads"
5. Select the file "Ambience_Radiance-Right.tar.gz"
6. Click "Open"
7. Select the new theme "Ambiance-right"

You then have both the standard unmodified left-aligned theme and the right-aligned theme available and can easily switch back and forth between them with a single click.

You can put 'em back to its place by doing the next:... Alt + F2 and then type gconf-editor then once the window open up, go to apps/metacity/general and in the right pane look for button_layout and right click on it, and choose Edit Key... and of course change the value to menu:minimize, maximize, close or whatever you like it to be. hope it helps!...

followed the instructions and it worked no problems and a big thanks for all the suggestions

But it doesnt make sense to me why they would make this the default layout....its not in KK :(

anyway have done a complete remodel and made it look more windows like with only one taskbar and that at the bottom:P

Just wanted to say thanks. I really like your page and info you have shared. With friends of mine that are new to Ubuntu I send them your way. . . You make things nice and easy.

I'm still having problems with flash working right. Not really sure what is wrong. (I can't click on the progress bar on some youtube videos, also can't click on any of the players buttons. I do notice a different player on some of the YouTube video; no problem with interacting with these controls. Is this a new Youtube player?) How do I know what version of Flash do I have installed. Not sure if I updated to 64bit correctly.

Also wanted to say. I like the move of the windows buttons. . .Finally. . . I may be one of the few, but I like it. :)

Any how, thanks again.
I hope you keep posting these.

Overall I think it's great. This time around I upgraded instead of doing a clean install, so on three computers, all 64bit,and the only annoying thing that happened is that on my main computer firefox decided to not respond at all. I now am using Opera as my default browser with seamonkey as backup.Other than that everything is good . It was the easiest, least hassle upgrade so far. This should be an excellent LTS:guitar:

The gravest issue with LUCID LYNX is in the networking / wireless area. I knew that I would not be able to connect with the release kernel, hence I had Ricardo Salvetri's patched kernel on hand.

Other than that, I can switch back and forth between the netbook interface, and standard. I can connect my 10" netbook to the 32" LCD TV,:p and I'm staying with Ubuntu!

I'm not really sure what is with the two different interfaces. I right click the videos and indeed they are both flash. I really prefer the new one. BTW, I do try and give HTML5 on youtube a try from now and then. For anyone that is interested.

Any how, I fixed my problem. Every time I went to the Adobe site to download flash64 bit I kept getting an error (adobe-flashplugin is virtual) Not actually sure what that means, but this is what I did. I went to the terminal.

Got rid of the old flash plugin

sudo apt-get purge flashplugin-installer nspluginwrapper

Then added this

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:sevenmachines/flash && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install flashplugin64-installer

For those that are wondering.
This is the video controls that I like and were the ones originally working when others weren't. Clip from one of my favorite movies.

Yeah, you have to purge the 32-bit flashplayer before using the 64-bit player. This was specified in the guide

Yeah, it took them a little bit to get it out, but they did it
