View Full Version : [ubuntu] DVDs Won't Play in Lucid...

Hi, Everyone...

I just installed 10.04 and am pleased w/ things, for the most part.

However, I cannot get a DVD disc to play (a movie, for instance) or be recognized unless I shut down the system and restart (provided I have already launched a Web video, or something). The DVD-ROM is dead to the world as far as disc recognition goes.

Things were just great in Karmic so this is completely confusing to me.

Does anyone have a fix?

Thanks so much,

Casp

So DVDs will play after you restart your system?

Yes, Hi...

My DVD burner is recognized in devices but will not play a DVD, nor is the disc recognized.

Everything worked in Karmic--I am finding many problems in Lucid, this is just one that is quite annoying.

Any help would be appreciated,

Casp

I can't get a video dvd to play either. I looked at this thread-http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=766683&highlight=dvd+won%27t+play+lucid
and tried the tips there. I also installed Ubuntu Restricted Extras, still no joy.
Can someone point us to the codecs we need?
