Hi All,
Fresh install of 10.04. I enter the correct wep key for my wireless router on my Sony laptop and the "Apply" tab is greyed out.
If I randomly add another digit, the apply tab enables.
Of course, it doesn't allow me to connect.
Any help is welcome. Thanks

WEP keys in HEX format are either 10 or 26 characters; for ASCII (rare, but not unknown) are 5 or 13 characters. If yours is not, you have the wrong key. Check in the routers configuration pages.

Thanks for the reply.
It all started with a "security" update!
I have since done a clean install of 10.04. The WEP key that I am trying to use is the same 124 bit key I have been using for quite a while.
As an aside, There is a W-XP box on the same wifi using the same key.
I'm wondering if somewhere in 10.04 a valid key lengh is coded wrong.
I'M at a loss.

this is an older thread but it describes wep keys pretty well.

Thanks bkratz,
FWIW, I meant 128bit.
As I said, the key I've been using for the past year or more is the one I plugged into Network Manager. Right # of digits, right digits but NM wants another digit.
Any other ideas? Thanks

Well, I downloaded another ISO, burned it and now all is well.
I'm not sure why but, there you have it.

Sure glad to hear that, didn't really have any good ideas. You might just go to the thread tools and mark this as solved in case it helps someone else finding it.
