Im just getting into this whole "Podcast" thing. Ive found some pretty cool ones. I was looking through a newier linux mag yesterday and ran across CastPodder (http://www.castpodder.net/).

Seems pretty cool. If you wanna install download and install THIS .deb. It depends on python-wxgtk2.6 and python-wxversion. Get 'em with Synaptic. I had to launch it with
/opt/CastPodder/CastPodder.sh
so I might be doing something wrong.

Im just learning it so Im not an expert.

So anyone have any experience with this? What about some good "casts"? :)

If you're into technology (the old school TechTV :) ), then I'd suggest This Week in Tech (http://www.twit.tv)

Funny story, I'm the guy that makes the deb.
CastPodder can be run with the command 'CastPodder'(case sensitive).
If you like it, please donate

I loved the screen savers.. I should start listening to TWiT..

I have one rss feed of a podcast (it's about harry potter - my friend is in it..) but I don't listen to it very much..

so I'm not that into "casts" but I signed up my TiVo for the new internet content and I have it now.. so I can listen to TWiT (I believe), diggnation, and others.. and even add my own rss feeds!

I didnt either but I was listening to NPR and they had a spot about a podcast from Scotland called "tartanpodcast (http://www.tartanpodcast.com/)". The story was good so I gave the site a look and found some cool music. It (podcasting) seems to be a cool way to find info on all sorts of cool things or info. :)

I just set up CastPodder this weekend and now have filled my harddrive up with about 100 hours of podcasts to listen to!

It seems like a nice little program, however I wish there was a more intuitive way to delete the file after you listen to it. It is not that hard to do, but it would be nice to just be able to right click it in CastPodder and choose "Delete" or something like that, rather than having to go to the Cleanup menu.

Anyway, if I use it on a regular basis I will probably make a donation.

NPR has some pretty good podcast shows, however, they charge for some of their more popular shows (CarTalk, This American Life are two that come to mind). You can still get Wait Wait Don't Tell me for free, and most of the news shows.

I got castpodder after ipodder that was in the repositary failled on redirects.

I got about 15 differant podcasts

One of them's a podcast from a British lug
LugRadio http://www.lugradio.org/episodes.rss ( http://www.lugradio.org ) *explicit*

not sure if it runs command line, but it can minimize itself to the tray on starting and can be configured to run when you log in and automatically check using its own scheduling.

Hi Folks,

I just recently started listening to some podcasts. I've been playing with ipodder but am finding it to be somewhat buggy. Is anyone aware of a better catcher that's graphical? Preferably something that integrates well with gnome?

Gord

Edited: I didn't realize that castpodder and ipodder were the same program, with one difference, castpodder is being maintained and less buggy than ipodder. BTW v5 of castpodder is out.

I have tried to find the .deb file for Castpodder, at either Castpodder.net, or borgforge, but cannot find the deb file. When I go to the Castpodder DL or Forums page, it is just blank. Can anyone let me know of a place to download the .deb file for Castpodder. Thanks to everyone for any help!

I finally downloaded Castpodder as well as GPodder. I am used to the interface from Castpodder as it is almost exactly the same as Juice (from the Windows platform.)

Is anyone having problems with Castpodder downloading episodes that have already been previously downloaded and deleted?

i've always used liferea and/or opera for podcast feeds. there's another reader called Blam too which came installed with suse. it looks nice and simple, but i haven't used it.

I use gPodder. It's not the greatest, but works pretty well is improves greatly with each release.
