View Full Version : [SOLVED] install won't show on monitor

I can't install 10.04 because the install process won't show on my monitor.

I have a Dell flat-screen, not sure about the model, but I admit the monitor is peculiar because it absolutely insists on 1600x1200 resolution. That means it even refuses to show lower resolutions! I don't think I need a new driver for my graphics card (although it is a very new, modern card) because if I connect an old CRT monitor, the display shows up fine and the install succeeds.

But even after install, if I swap out the CRT and switch to the flat-screen, the display disappears again and nothing can be seen. I've tried to adjust the display settings using the old CRT, to prepare things for the flat-screen, but Ubuntu is too smart: it knows that I have an old monitor attached and so it shows no option for higher resolutions like 1600x1200, therefore I'm stuck with my ancient CRT monitor.

Thanks for any help.
