Mine(one of my test machines), With Intel Pentium D 2.8GHz, 500MB 400MHz DDR, Ubuntu 10.04 RC (fully updated as of this writing):

GRUB - Login Window = 23 seconds
Login Window - Desktop = 29 seconds
Desktop - Shutdown = 28 seconds

Before I test Ubuntu 10.04 RC, this machine has Ubuntu 8.04 (fully updated) installed. I don't have a record of how many seconds to boot from it, but it feels like, 10.04 is slower in this machine. Shutting down 8.04 as I remember takes less than 10 seconds. I can't remember how many seconds for grub to login, then login to desktop but as far as i remember, it feels like 10.4 is slower compared to 8.04.

How about you guys, in your machines? How much time does it takes to boot from grub to login, login to desktop, and how much time to shutdown?

According to bootchart 15.64 seconds from grub to desktop. There is a big bootchart thread in the Lucid Testing sub-forum, so I won't post it here.

Computer specs:

AMD X240 CPU
2Gb PC6400 Ram
Nvidia GT210 Video Card

I haven't tried 10.04 before this weekend, and it looked really good!

I'm probably gona install it soon.

I didn't test how fast it went, but i installed it on a very "cheap" computer, and it runned way faster that the OS it used before(Vista..). :)

For me it boots up in 40 seconds (grub to desktop) which is better than the latest windows i seen. For shutdown it took 8 seconds.

The issue when booting up is 'Auto eth0' takes another 15 seconds to become active. Is this normal? Please suggest.
