Hello All,

I have a simple entry level laptop, it only has the basic keys (no number pad)and i seem to be having a key mapping issue...but only recently....only after logging in.

Basically the letters and numbers are totally scrambled, the map was set to a generic keyboard...which worked fine up until like two days ago. I changed the map to match my brand of laptop (everex) with no change. The weird thing is that i can log in when booting up with no issue.... have a missed something?

i have figured out the issue, but am not sure how to fix it. my laptop is equipped with a "Fn" key to access a secondary character located on some of the keys, ubuntu is recognizing those secondary characters as the primary ones. i have to press the Fn key to access what should be the primary map, which is really not a viable option. anyone know how to get around this?

ah ha! so i figured it out and it now works fine. There was some weirdness with the Fn key and the Number lock, pressed together the issue is gone!
